Course Overview
Language is powerful. The words we use have the potential to hurt or to uplift, to discriminate or to include. Inclusive language is the act of choosing words intentionally to include and convey respect to as many people and identities as possible. But, using inclusive language might not come naturally, even to those of us who value diversity and inclusion. In this mini-course, we aim to demystify the process of adopting inclusive language. From navigating the nuances of language to inclusive terminology, we’ll guide you through some terminologies and techniques you can use to more inclusively talk about race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, religion, and more.
